Antique 12ct. solid gold (tested) Carnelian fob seal. The seal is a rectangular shape, depicting an eagle to the centre, which is bordered by black with gold outer rim and striation design to upper section which is suspended from an 8mm. (outer 10mm.) bail. Excellent condition. Weight: 4.57 gms.

Measurements / Height of body of fob, from top to base: 23.94mm. (= 2.39 cms. / 0.94”). Height including bail: 29.24mm. (= 2.92 cms. / 1.15”).  Length of seal: 15.24mm. (= 1.52 cms. / 0.6”). Width of seal: 11.82 mm. (= 1.18cms. / 0.46”).

This Fob Seal is engraved with a crest of an eagle with outstretched wings. The eagle symbolizes strength, courage, farsightedness and immortality. It is considered to be the king of the air and the messenger of the highest Gods. Mythologically, it is connected by the Greeks with the God Zeus, by the Romans with Jupiter, by the Germanic tribes with Odin and by Christians with God. 

It was a symbol of victory in ancient Rome. Similarly it was a symbol of good over evil in ancient Greece. The perfect gift!
