Tanzanite is the blue and violet variety of the mineral zoisite. It is one of the rarest gemstones, because it is found and mined in a small area only 4 kilometers wide and 2 kilometers long at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro in the Manyara Region of Northern Tanzania. Tanzanite is a trichoic stone that reflects different colours, ranging from light blues or lilacs to deep indigos and violets. It was discovered in the 1960s and named after Tanzania by Tiffany & Co. whose marketing department thought that the scientific name “blue-violet zoisite” was not consumer friendly. This ring has that beautiful purpley blue hue, which enhances its beauty.
